Karen MoretStaff

Accommodations Coordinator in Academic Support Center

I am a dedicated educator, program director, and leader with over a decade of experience supporting children, families and young adults. I have built my career around creating opportunities for growth, belonging and success—whether in the classroom, through youth programming, or in the community.

I grew up on a beef cattle farm along the Minnesota River. I grew up immersed in 4-H, dance, community theatre and volleyball. I am married to my husband, Chris, in 2016 and together we have three wonderful kids — Nealyn (11), CJ (8) and Pixie (6). I began my career in education as a Special Education Teacher, where I spent 10 years designing and implementing individualized support for students across multiple grade levels. Prior to that I worked with adults with disabilities in various community settings. My work was defined by creativity, compassion and advocacy for individuals with diverse needs. In 2025, I transitioned to higher education, accepting the role of Accommodations Coordinator at Gustavus Adolphus College, where I hope to continue my mission of ensuring that all students have equitable access to learning and campus life.

Beyond education, I am also a passionate dance studio director and instructor. I have been dancing since the age of five and trained in kick, jazz, hip hop, and ballet. Over the years, I have coached classes that foster teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence in young dancers. Currently, I am the Director of the Waterville Area Just For Kix Program, where I mentor both dancers and staff while continuing to share my lifelong love of dance.

When I'm not working or dancing, I enjoy listening to audiobooks and podcasts, coloring, puzzling and (like so many parents!) playing “taxi driver” for my kids.

Throughout my career, I have been recognized for my ability to balance structure with empathy, always striving to meet individuals where they are and help them reach their potential. Whether I am leading a classroom, coaching a team, or developing student support initiatives, I bring energy, professionalism and heart to everything I do.
